Pivot Tables may initially seem complex, but they are essentially a straightforward method to examine and summarise your data efficiently, without delving into complex formulas. These tools allow you to quickly categorise and summarise large datasets, enabling you to gain insights and make informed decisions with ease. And the best part of Pivot Tables is that when our raw data changes, we can simply click ‘Refresh’ and all of the changes ‘magically’ appear in the Pivot Table, saving HOURS on reconciling data.
Essentially, they are your data-managing ally, simplifying what used to be complicated analyses into manageable AND simple tasks! How ACE is that?
Jamie is a marketing coordinator at a bustling retail company, specialising in outdoor equipment. Each month, Jamie faced the Herculean task of manually compiling sales data – a process fraught with potential errors and inefficiencies.
Each Month, he would apply filters for the month, and relevant categories, and then manually count and add up the data that was shown. He would then retype those figures into a Month End Report template. This process took approx 1.5 days each month.

After undertaking a 3 hour training session, (during which Traci revamped his Month End Reporting process using Pivot Tables), Jamie reduced his report preparation from a day and a half each month to less than an hour (most of which was sense checking the results, which Jamie never had the luxury of time to be able to do before)! Now all he had to do at Month End was ‘Refresh’ the Pivot Table and change the Month on a Slicer.
This meant he also gained the ability to spot vital sales trends which had previously gone unnoticed, transforming the company’s marketing strategy and increasing sales.
